Johan Nyssen - oil on panel

Johan Nyssen has built a world of his own in which nature and people play the leading roles. Sometimes that human being is an aesthetic given, other times it is a creature with magical radiation and something enigmatic. There is as much tormentedness as pure aesthetics in his scenes.' He was a designer of ceramic objects for a firm in Beernem (1958-1965) and a teacher at the Ter Groene Poorte Training Institute in Sint-Michiels/Bruges (1979-1985). Together with the sculptor and interior designer Els Baeke, he founded a private academy, J. Nyssen, in 1985. He is mentioned in the Lexicon van Westvlaamse beeldende kunstenaars v. (Piron)
